NIH Enterprise Directory (NED) Enhancements

Scope

The NIH Enterprise Directory (NED) is the authoritative source for identity management at NIH and a critical component of the NIH digital identity infrastructure and Identity Management Architecture. Enhancements to the directory will allow key NIH business processes to function more efficiently and effectively. The current focus of the NED Enhancements project is to transition NED to a new business process and identity management infrastructure. This is exemplified by the Personal Identification Verification (PIV) Build Project.


Expected Value

  • Provide a framework for supporting new business processes
  • Improve integration with enterprise initiatives/architecture
  • Shorten the deployment time for future NED improvements


2008 1st Quarter

  • Implement enhancements to support the HSPD-12 PIV process


2008 2nd Quarter

  • Continue implementing enhancements to support the HSPD-12 PIV process
  • Model account and remote access (VPN) provisioning


2008 3rd Quarter

  • Implement account and remote access provisioning business process
  • Initiate NEDWeb transition to Business Process Management infrastructure
  • Continue implementing enhancements to support the HSPD-12 PIV process


2008 4th Quarter

  • Complete NEDWeb transition to Business Process Management infrastructure
  • Continue implementing enhancements to support the HSPD-12 PIV process
