Research Contracts Models

Scope

The purpose of the research contracts modeling effort is to understand the current state of the business processes that support research & development contracts and to provide a framework for reaching a NIH-desired future state. 

Expected Value

• Promotes understanding of current business processes and the roadmap needed to reach the intended future state business processes
• Provides ability to analyze whether IT is properly aligned with the business processes.
• Provides metrics for process improvement initiatives.
• Promotes common understanding of business processes.
• Facilitates planning for future systems development.

2007 4th Quarter

• Validate high-level business process models with executive-level subject matter experts
• Validate lower level business process models with subject matter experts.

2008 1st Quarter

• Continue validation of lower-level business porcess models
  
  

2008 2nd Quarter

• Communicate results of business process modeling effort
• Post the business process models to the NIH Enterprise Architecture website.
  
  

2008 3rd Quarter

• Identify business process improvement opportunities.
