Approved Applications Mapping Service Process Models

Description

In the first quarter of 2009, the Office of the Chief Information Technology Architect (OCITA) met with the NIH Mapping Service team.  Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) were consulted to derive the process by which an organization (both internal and external to NIH) may enable an application to map an existing application’s accepted end user's federated account.  The goal was to design a process map that displays how NIH can enable one set of credentials for all NIH applications (eliminating the need for a new User ID and password for each NIH application).

There are two types of business process models listed.  The WHAT model is a hierarchical representation of the business activities necessary to complete a specific business purpose.  The HOW model captures the sequence of business activities, the flow of information from one activity to another, the organizations, roles, and technologies involved in mapping to an existing federated account.
